The Problem
Deshsanchar needed a fast, reliable news portal that could handle high traffic, publish breaking news in real time, and support Nepali Unicode content without the usual encoding headaches. Off-the-shelf WordPress themes weren’t cutting it. They were too slow, too generic, and couldn’t handle the specific needs of a Nepali-language newsroom.
What We Did
We built custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch, tailored specifically for news publishing. The theme was designed for speed and readability, with a layout that prioritizes breaking stories and makes it easy for editors to push live updates without touching code.
The biggest technical challenge was Unicode. Publishing in Nepali means dealing with font rendering, text input, and encoding issues that English-language tools don’t account for. We built a Unicode converter using Vue.js that lets editors type in Romanized Nepali and convert it instantly, right inside the publishing workflow. No copy-pasting from external tools.
The whole system was built to handle traffic spikes, because news doesn’t wait for your server to catch up.
The Result
Deshsanchar launched as a fully functional news portal at deshsanchar.com and continues to serve readers daily. The custom theme and Unicode tooling removed the friction that slowed down every other Nepali newsroom using stock WordPress setups.
